The band was interested in entering a DJ for the training, but were reluctant becausethey believed did not know any good enough. After seeing the band live, Sid Wilsonsaid "I knew I was born to be in this band." Wilson contacted the band to demonstrate their interest in joining the group. After several hearings and an incident before a concert in which he headbutts in all the band members, was considered "material Slipknot" and remained in the band since then.

Donnie Steele was a member of the original band formed in 1995. In February 1996, during the mixing process of Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat., Steele decided to leave thegroup. It was announced on 10/03/2011 that it replaces the late bassist Paul Gray during the 2011 tour.

After the departure of Greg Welts, Chris Fehn came to occupy the vacant seat on percussion and vocals. Fehn Before the band had asked if he could be a roadie for the group, and its entry was described as similar to this in the movie Fight Club. However,after a month to "see if it fit in Slipknot," Fehn joined and since then has remained in training.

Jim Root has joined the band in 1999 near the end of the recording process of Slipknot.He entered the place after the departure of guitarist Josh Brainard and is the last member of the current line-up to enter.

Primarily Craig Jones joined the band on guitar to replace Donnie Steele. However, JoeyJordison noted that they were to incorporate an increasing amount of samples on his records and could not produce live. As a result, Jones moved to full-time sampler.

Taylor was recruited from the local band Stone Sour in 1997. Slipknot's music demandedmore melodic vocals, the lead singer Anders Colsefini failed to achieve. The initial ideawas to have two to share the task, however it was decided that Taylor would be with mostof the vocals and Colsefini passed to the vocals.
